Oocyte/ Sperm Donation

Oocyte/ Sperm Donation

Egg donation

Egg donation is a process in which a fertile woman donates an egg, or oocyte, to another woman to help her conceive. It is a part of assisted reproductive technology (ART). The procedure typically involves fertilizing eggs from a donor with the male partner’s sperm in a laboratory dish and transferring the resulting embryos to the female partner’s uterus. The female partner will not be biologically related to the child, although she will be the birth mother on record. The male partner will be biologically related to the child sometimes. All of the embryos may be freezed for later use.

Who benefits from Egg Donation?

Egg donation is a brief procedure with a good success rate in women, who cannot use their own eggs for various reasons, like

  • Ovarian failure
  • Avoiding congenital anomalies in the fetus
  • Advanced age

What to expect

The clinic will conduct a thorough selection process for potential donors to minimize the risk of congenital anomalies and genetic diseases.

  • Ultrasound, to examine the reproductive organs
  • Medical and psychological history — to discover donor and family health history
  • Infectious disease screening
  • Screening for inherited disease

The donor will then take a series of fertility drugs that stimulate the ovaries to produce several eggs at once. This is known as ovarian stimulation. Throughout the donation cycle, a donor will undergo frequent blood tests and ultrasound examinations to monitor their response to the medications. Donors receive financial compensation for their time and eggs.

Donor identity

Egg donation programs keep the donor’s identity confidential.

IVF or IUI with Donor Sperm

Donor Sperm is used when quality of sperms is poor for male partner and cannot be used for fertilization. After assessing completely doctor will advise for using Donor sperm. Here anonymous sperm donor is used to fertilize the eggs of female partner and embryo is formed and transferred to the uterus.
